We all have this habit of packing too much, we seem to be overburdening ourselves with more and more stuff in your luggage.  This year, it's time to reduce the stuff and start carrying what you need rather than what you think you will need. To help you decide, here is my list of Top 5 actions to take to pack your suitcase in an organised and lighter way.

1. Check the weather for your holiday destinationSummer is the season for shorts, tank tops and flip flops, unless you are going down into the Southern Hemisphere, where Winter is descending.Check the weather using websites and apps such as Yahoo Weather or the Weather Channel. Also verify in the your destination's national tourism sites and Tripadvisor to see what the average is at this time of the year.Airlines such as Emirates also provide weather advice and information on the cultural norms in the country to assist you as well.  You want to make sure you can wear the tank top and shorts without offending the locals.

2. Buy a Light Medium SuitcaseA light suitcase with wheels is a must especially if you are travelling between transportation. I bought the Samsonite Lite Locked three years ago and it has withheld all the pressures of travelling and it hasn't broken my back!Samsonite have released an even lighter suitcase recently called the Firelite which looks just as awesome (and it's cheaper).

3. Multi Task your ClothesChoose clothes that you won't need to iron, are light and can be mixed and matched with each other.Linen might be the choice of magazines and shops, but they don't iron the clothes (they steam them) and the reality is that they look awful when you take them out of your suitcase.Silk is lovely and light, but the sweat patches are not so nice in the heat.  Be careful also with synthetic materials; it might be great that the summer clothes are cheap in Forever 21 and H&M, but do you want to look like a wet smelly blanket after 10 minutes in the sun?My list of clothes to take for a two week holiday are:1. 1 pair of jeans - you can wear them on the plane, trekking and to keep warm if it gets cool at night.2. 2 bottoms - trousers, capri pants, cargo pants or skirts.3. 7 pairs of underwear - make them cotton to let you breathe.4. 5 bras5. 3 pairs of shoes - flip flops for the beach and going for breakfast, dressing up shoes (sandals, smart loafters) and trainers (if exercising or planning to walk a lot).6. 5 tops - choose light tops such as t-shirts, tank tops, polo shirts.7. 1 kaftan (or 2 dresses) - kaftans can be worn on the beach, dinner or during the day as a top.8. 1 swimming costume, bikni or trunks9. 1 pair of pjs or night outfit.10. 1 shawl to wear as a headscarf or to cover your shoulders.11. 1 Summer Hat or Cap12. 1 bottle of washing detergent. Check out my post from last week to see my favourite ladies clothes to buy this summer.

4. Contain your ClothesNow you have the clothes, take the time to fold or roll them neatly and store them in packing cubes. Use these cubes to separate items such as underwear, tops, trousers, so they are easy to find. You can find great ones in Muji (see below) and Amazon. If you do not have time to buy packing cubes, you can use large ziplock bags instead.

5. Mini-Me Your Toiletries Buy a sturdy toiletry bag such as this one from Muji and keep it always filled up with your toiletries so you can pick up and go when you travel. The key toiletries and accessories I take with me are:1. Toothbrush, Toothpaste and Floss2. Hairbrush3. Moisturiser for Face4. Suncream and After Sun5. Deodorant6. Hair products7. Lots of hair bands (my ones always break).8. Mascara, Liquid Eyeliner, One Lipstick and Bronzer. To save you having to carry your nail kit such as nail remover, nail cutter, etc, get a shellac/gelish manicure and pedicure, so that you have perfect nails during the holidays. For the medical kit, I recommend you include these items as they will be required for most of the destinations you visit:1. plasters2. antiseptic cream (Savlon)3. Antiseptic wipes/small bottle of dettol4. Ibuprofen/Panadol5. Teething Gels6 .Anti-histamine cream and tablets for insect bites7. Medicines for Tummies such as Imodium.8. Prescription medicine.

What else do you include in your suitcase when you are on holiday which you think we should include in this list? Happy Packing and Let me know if you need help with Packing for the family. :)
