Being Postive When DeCluttering

Every week I hear the words "I'm so embarrassed! This must be the worst place you have ever seen!" My response always is "I have seen worse". Most of the time I have seen worse and even if I haven't, you have to be positive when decluttering. The fact that this person has contacted a professional organizer is a massive positive step and I am happy to remind that to anyone who calls me and books me to help them get organised.I love decluttering and organizing so my positivity is natural rather than forced. I know it is hard for the client to see the positives especially at the start of the day, but I like to look at what the view will be like at the end, once we have eliminated a lot of the clutter. My suggestion when decluttering is to look at what is important to keep.

Once that is established, it is easy to eliminate everything that is not important in your life. With children it can be more difficult to convince them that decluttering is a good thing, so I work with them to explain about how we are going to be organised and that losing their toys is a good thing (as they may get better, new toys). Once the system is in place, I work with the children to show them the new system and how they can use it to be organised and find their toys easily. By spending time 121 with the child showing them their new play area, they feel not only feel grown up and special, but also more positive about the changes to their space.

A lot of them pick up the value of organizing from our sessions and keep maintaining them (with positive nudges from their parents). With adults, if they feel overwhelmed even after creating the organized systems, I advise them to get away from the room, if possible, run a hot bath and have a nice glass of wine (if they drink) or karak chai. The hard work has finished, now they can relax and enjoy the new organized space. If you feel negative being surrounded by your clutter and need a positive injection contact me by clicking on this link and I can help you get positive in a day.Take care for now!
