App of the Week - 1Password

Were you affected recently by the virus Heartbleed recently? Did you have to change your password for various programmes you use including yahoo, dropbox, etc? I had to change over 10 passwords in one day due to this virus potentially affecting programmes that I use. This is one of the issues of using so much technology for my business and personal life.Luckily I was informed by my fellow techie friends about an app called 1Password.1Password allows you to save all your passwords for all of the programmes and apps that you use online including your email accounts, banks and loyalty programmes. There are some great features on this app but these are the main ones that make this a great way to save your passwords securely:a. Allow your to sync with your laptop and phones to access the password everywhere.b. Can create strong passwords for you.c. Organise your passwords into folders. I have created folders for banks, retails, loyalty programmes, website and apps, etc.d. There is 1password mini which is allows you to access the login and password details from an icon at the top of your laptop rather than logging into the full site.e. Share with friends and family if required.f. Function to copy your password with one click if you do not have password access.g. With one click you will be automatically directed to the login page and the login details will be auto populated (no need to save passwords on the browser).h. Security audit conducted by the app to alert you if you need to change your password.Since downloading this app and using it on a regular basis, I no longer have to go to a site and say I have forgotten my password (which inevitably happens with being registered on so many sites). The security features enable me to have peace of mind. Of course, you will still have to change your password if there is another heartbleed virus episode but at least you know 1password will be able to help you create a new secure one and it will be saved in one location. This has truly helped me to become more productive and efficient with my time and stops me saving my password on different pieces of paper or notebooks on my computer.
