The Best Method to Declutter Your Kitchen

The kitchen can be the heart of your home, but it’s also one of the easiest places to become cluttered and chaotic. With countertops drowning in appliances, and cupboards bursting with unused gadgets, it can feel overwhelming.

But I have a simple method to declutter your kitchen and create a clean, functional space you’ll actually enjoy spending time in:

1. Do a mini-declutter

Start by clearing out your kitchen cupboards, drawers, and pantry but section by section, so that it doesn’t seem daunting. Go through each item and be honest with yourself. If you haven’t used that blender in a year, or if that saucepan’s gathering dust, it’s time to let it go. The same goes for expired food or those random gadgets you never actually use. Donate, recycle, or bin what’s no longer needed. Trust me, less is more when it comes to a clutter-free kitchen.

2. Categorise your items

Once everything’s out and you have decluttered your items, categorise the items staying – crockery, utensils, dry food, small appliances, the works.

3. Optimise Your Storage

With the clutter gone, it’s time to think about storage. Make use of clear containers for food items and label them – it makes life so much easier. Drawer organisers are great for cutlery, and shelf risers or baskets can help make the most of your cupboard space. A bit of clever organisation now will save you so much time later on.

4. Create Functional Zones

Dividing your kitchen into zones can make all the difference. Keep your pots and pans near the cooker, your baking bits together, and snacks in one designated area. This way, everything you need will be right where you want it, and you won’t be scrambling around looking for things. Creating zones helps keep the kitchen organised and efficient.

5. Keep Up the Good Work

Now you’ve done the hard work, it’s about maintaining the order. Build daily habits like clearing counters, putting things away, and regularly sorting through the pantry. A quick 10-minute tidy-up each day will prevent the clutter from creeping back in, so you can keep your kitchen looking fab without the stress.

Decluttering your kitchen doesn’t have to be a nightmare. By following these steps – clearing out, sorting, organising, and keeping things in check – you’ll have a kitchen that’s not only functional but a pleasure to be in.

Now you can enjoy your kitchen space!
