How to Create a Clutter-Free Entryway

The entryway is the first space you see when you step inside your home, and often the first area that gets cluttered. Shoes pile up, bags get dumped, and before you know it, it’s an obstacle course rather than a welcoming entrance. But don’t worry—it’s easy to transform this space into a clutter-free, organised area with just a few tweaks. Here’s how you can get started.

Maximise Wall Space

If your entryway is tight on floor space, make use of the walls. Install hooks for keys, jackets, bags, and umbrellas, so they have a dedicated place as soon as you walk through the door. A slim, wall-mounted shelf or a small console table can also be handy for mail or other small items, preventing them from cluttering up surfaces around your home.

Designate a Shoe Area

Shoes are one of the biggest culprits of entryway clutter. To keep them from taking over, designate a specific area for them. You can add a shoe rack, cubby system, or even a bench with storage underneath. Encourage everyone in your household to make it a habit to store their shoes here as soon as they walk in. This simple system will help maintain order and keep shoes off the floor.

Baskets and Storage Bins

For entryways that tend to attract more miscellaneous clutter like scarves, hats, or kids’ items, baskets and storage bins are a lifesaver. Choose ones that complement your decor and label them so everyone knows where things belong. These bins keep things neat, contained, and easy to grab when heading out the door.

Keep It Simple

Don’t overcomplicate the space with too many decorative items. A few well-placed decor pieces, like a mirror or a plant, can add style without adding to the mess. The key to a clutter-free entryway is keeping only what you need and use regularly. If it’s not necessary, consider moving it elsewhere.

Maintain a Routine

Once your entryway is set up, keeping it clutter-free becomes about maintenance. Encourage family members to put things back in their designated spots. Take five minutes each day to tidy up the space, and you’ll find it stays organised far longer.

A clutter-free entryway doesn’t have to be a dream. With a few smart solutions, you can create a welcoming, functional space that sets the tone for the rest of your home.
