5 Tips to Help You Manage your Time

5 Tips to Help You Manage your Time I have spoken to a few mothers recently who have found it difficult to manage their time and expectations in their daily life. They have to ensure the kids get up, ready for school, cook meals for the family (which must be incredibly healthy, organic, gluten free, GMO free and any other free), ensure the house is clean and clutter free, do the shopping, ensure the schoolwork is completed, the kids are happy and lastly ensure that the husband is happy. Just writing that list exhausted me so imagine how these women feel! These mothers asked for tips and tricks on how to manage their time. So here are my foolproof 5 tips to help you manage your time everyday: Keep a to-do listI always recommend using an app such as Ticktick which can be downloaded on your phone and accessed on your computer. Once you have finished the task you can tick it off, which is always an awesome thing! Ticktick can be synced to your online calendar as well (see below). If you prefer using paper list, get a to-do list notepad such as this one from Paperchase or your local stationery office.Kraft magnetic clipboard, pad and pen Do not rewrite your to-do list every day; it not only wastes precious time during your day but will also demotivate you as you realise you have not finished a task from your previous list.If you do not complete all the tasks you have set out for your day, shrug your shoulders and try to do it the next day. Remember Rome was not built in a day (or Burj Khalifa!).Make sure your to-do list does not include ideas of things you would like to do or have seen in articles, because... Fill Your Ideas in an Idea BookTropicowl ideas journal Fill your ideas, anything you have seen or heard in the media, social media or talking to people into your idea book (this one was found in Paperchase). This book will inspire you and the ideas you create may one day become something to add to your to-do list!I keep my idea book by my bed and fill it up when I can. I also have an electronic Idea notebook in Evernote. This enables me to write down any ideas that may pop up when I am out and about onto my Evernote account on my phone.  I also use Evernote to write down notes for my personal life, DeCluttr Me and to store recipes. Use your Phone Calendar - AlwaysIf you do not have a smartphone, then scroll down, but for the rest of us, make your Calendar your life. Put everything you have to do each day such as school activities for the kids, shopping trips, coffee mornings and also your to-do list if you have synced it with Ticktick or similar apps.  You won't waste precious time thinking about what you have to do next as it will all be noted in your calendar. You can also add invitees to the calendar event such as your husband and/or kids so that they know what they have to do that day as well. Stop Listening to Other MothersThis is very important. You can only do as much as you can do for yourself and your family. Listening to other mothers and women talking about how they manage their day so perfectly is bad for morale and in all likelihood a lie (or they have lots of people to help them). Do what you can and ignore the superwomen! Book a Professional OrganizerFor some of you, following the tips above can seem daunting.  If you want to be more organized with your time but don't know where to start, book a 4 hour session with DeCluttr Me and we can help you start the road to getting organized. Shelina Jokhiya     [twitter-follow username="decluttrme" scheme="dark"]
