The NO Declutter

Do you say Yes often to other people?I read the Yes Man years ago and remember thinking how it would be awesome if amazing things happened to me just from say Yes to everything. Then I realised that saying Yes was creating clutter in my life.By saying yes I would

  • have to meet friends despite having no energy or being busy with work;

  • attend a networking event although it had no relevance to my business;

  • take on a project despite having no time.

  • do a task despite being busy with other tasks.

I had trouble saying no as much as anyone else, but then I started realising that it wasn't helping ME.

It was creating clutter in my mind, time and body. I was exhausted all the time physically and mentally as I was taking on too much.

So I started saying No.

Saying no was a challenge, but it was necessary for my wellbeing.

  • The more you say yes, the more you will resent the things that you have to do. This means your mood will become more negative. I'm sure no one wants to see you grumpy and exhausted all the time.

  • By saying yes to something, you are making sure you are saying no to something else which you really wanted to do.

  • Saying yes to something that you don't want to really do, means that someone else loses the opportunity to take part in that event and say Yes.

How can we stop this negative energy, clutter up our lives:

  • Be selective about which events, including networking and social events, you attend. Choose the ones that excite you; then you will feel positive, excited and energetic.

  • It may sounds ruthless but if the events are for business, choose the ones that will help you meet people who can help your business.

  • If you must go to multiple events, check that the travel time is not too long. You don't want to be stressed from sitting on Sheikh Zayed Road for an hour.

  • Remember that you don't want to feel cluttered in your mind and body; as soon as you get that feeling say no to the offer or request.

When saying no, be polite. Remember this country is a village and someone knows someone who knows someone else. Word does get around and you will lose friends and business connections if you are rude when saying no.Let me know if saying no helps alleviate your clutter and improve your wellbeing.
