8 Top Tips - Getting Organised with your Hand Luggage

Today's tips are on how to ensure you pack as little as possible in your hand luggage and stay organised.

1. Keep Calm and Carry OnIf you are like me and cannot be away from her laptop, then you will have to make a provision for carrying it in your luggage.Michael Kors Jet Set bag was designed specifically for Apple products to be stored in them. The inside pocket fits my Mac Air perfectly and I have additional pouches to store my IPhone, IPad chargers and other items.

2. Hold It!Travel Document Holders are one of the essential items in my luggage.  Containing my passport, Skywards card, E-gate card, any other Airline Loyalty cards,  a few notes in Dollars, Euros and Pounds and my international driving licence, it is packed and ready to get on that flight!A beautiful and classic travel document holder is the Smythson one like this:If you have a large family I recommend this 4 passport holder travel document holder which you can buy at Amazon.

3. ShawledI am not a fan of airline blankets so I always carry my heavy duty pashmina. It is large and thick enough to keep me warm during the flight and if I land in the evening at my destination, I can use it as a scarf to keep me warm in the summer breeze.

4. Charge!Bring all the chargers for items you carry on - for me it would be my Mac, IPad and IPhone. Luckily flights like Emirates have USB charges so you only need to bring the cable with you.  I keep all the chargers in a hotel shoe bag.

5. KindledMy IPad includes the Kindle, Books and Newstand apps which allows me to download books, magazines and travel guides that I will be using on my holiday. No need for books and magazines to take up my luggage space now.

6. Small PackagesUnless you are flying Business and First class, you will have to bring your own toothpaste and moisturiser. Sephora sells travel size cleanser, toothpaste, and other toiletries, which you can take on the plane without any hassle. I wear minimal amount of makeup when travelling, limiting myself to my mascara, eyeliner and lipstick. My favourite toiletries to carry on the plane are:

7. Clear EnoughYou will always need it (or until airports stop being silly), so get a nice one like this to hold your liquid items and to act as your toiletries bag.

8. Purse Away!Carry another purse with your holiday currency. It will save you moving all of the cards and money from the UAE purse (and be more secure). Use an old non-descript wallet to store your foreign currency.

What else do you put in your hand luggage when you fly out that we should include in this list?

Next time we will have tips on how to pack for your kids.
