Cheese! - Top tips to save your photo collection.

In this age of digital photography, are you finding your have a mass of photos lying around as hard copies and also on your computer? Can't find the photo straight away? Then its time to decluttr your photo collection. Here are tips to help you start the process of storing your photos correctly:

1. Reduce your digital collection - You don't need 50 photos of the lion sleeping on safari. Keep the best one and trash the rest.

2. Create electronic albums - Having electronic albums will enable you to find the photos quickly and easily. Create dedicated albums for your holidays and events,  and sub folders for years.

3. Backup! - Save all your digital photos in a portable hard drive. You don't want to deal with the misery of losing your photos, if you computer crashes. 2TB hard drive should be sufficient for your photo collection. You can buy hard drives from hypermarkets and electronic stores.

4. Ride in the clouds - Use Cloud based services to save electronic photos and documents as another method of backup. You can also access the items anywhere with an internet connection from your mobile or computer devices. I use Dropbox to save my documents but you can also try ICloud if you have Mac devices (but there is a fee to use the services if you go over a certain storage limit).

5. Box them - Although we may not print photos nowadays, we still have to store the ones we accumulated over the years. Why not use an acid free storage box such as the Iris Storage Keeper (see above). You can purchase the boxes from Amazon to deliver to the UAE. You can also store the photos in albums which can be purchased from the Kodak shops in malls. Store these boxes and albums in cool, dry places to prevent damage to the photos.

Let me know if these tips help you to sort out your photo collection and you can even send me photos to show how you organised the collections!
