Tip of the Day - How to deal with paper clutter

Here is a useful article on how long to keep paper items (courtesy of Woman's Day).To help you deal with the paper items listed in the article I suggest you get the following:

1. If you do not have a safe deposit box - Small safe which can fit a Box file or ringbinder

2. Box file (if you have a lot of "keep forever documents" or ringbinder (you can find some colourful ones in Whsmiths and Paperchase)

3. A4 envelopes which you can hole punch BEFORE you put the important documents in them (only if you use a ring binder).I do not suggest you use the plastic sheet protectors as after a period of time they stick to the document and remove the ink (I have experienced this with my education certificates).

4. Colour dividers to separate your documents in the files.

5. Portable shredder

6. Ringbinder to store your statements and receipts. The article suggests you keep the majority of documents for a year.

I would suggest you review your ringbinder every six months and take out any statements, etc which are over one year old from the date of review (unless you need to keep them for auditing purposes).Receipts are a pain to look after. As the returns policy is so short in the UAE, I tend to shred receipts after one week. Keeping receipts in an ordered manner can be a difficult, so i suggest using the plastic sheet protectors and put receipts for each month in separate protectors. The sheets can be stored in a box such as this black one from Ikea (Bladis AED 45).

If you have any other useful tips let me know.
